Effective steps
Here you will learn the steps of effective problem solving with example :
Example: Lost Key of Claire
A fine morning, Claire is getting ready to leave for work, she realizes that she can't find her car keys. She searches her apartment frantically, but they are nowhere to be found. She starts to feel frustrated and overwhelmed as she's running late for an important meeting.
Claire: What if I use steps by step process that I learned from the problem-solving workshop!
- Define the problem
- Gather information
- Identify possible solutions
- Assessing the solutions
- Select the best solution
- Implement the solution
- Evaluate outcome
Claire: I needs to find my car keys, so that I can make it to the meeting on time.
Claire: I need to retrace my steps and recollect when, where I had my keys.
She recalls that she placed them on the kitchen counter last night, but she can't remember if she put them in her purse this morning.
Claire brainstormed a few possible solutions to find her keys. She could ask her roommate, check her purse again, or look in her car.
Claire thinks about each possible solution and evaluates them based on effectiveness and feasibility. She realizes that her roommate is already at work and wouldn't be able to help, and she already checked her purse. That leaves her with looking in her car.
She decides to look in her car as it's the best possible solution.
She hurries down to the parking lot and finds her keys on the floor mat of her car. She breathes a sigh of relief and rushes to her meeting.
Claire: I arrived on time, and I feel confident even though I misplaced my keys and lost few minutes in finding them.
Claire from that incident, carries the car key with her to avoid any time lost in the future.
Learnings:
Claire reflects on the problem-solving technique she learned in the workshop and how it helped her to stay calm and focused under pressure. She realizes that the skills she learned will serve her well in both her personal and professional life.
